X-Play increasing game coverage on G4

without comments

I, for one, have been holding out hoping that G4 would someday pick up the torch of generating game coverage similar to the way that GameTrailers has with their retrospectives.

It looks like they might now be headed down the right path. X-Play will be expanding its coverage of videogames to include more than just review video segments.

Although there are no direct promises of game features, the press release does say that there will be more analysis and interviews. I can only hope that these segments lead into more gamer-focused features that we can all enjoy. I have really enjoyed what GameTrailers is doing with their retrospective segments–similar to what G4’s Icons used to be–so it would be great to have something like a smaller version of that on the air as a part of the X-Play program.

The new daily program should premiere on January 14. Check your times.

‘Life’ embarrasses gamer fans with Prince of Persia inclusion

without comments

I am actually a fan of the show ‘Life’ on NBC. It follows the cases of a detective who is vindicated for the killing of his business partner after serving 10 years in prison with new evidence. He now has his old job as a police detective back along with a hefty settlement to live off of and comes closer each week to solving the mystery of who really killed his business partner.

The series has been pretty cool, then they go and do something like having a missing teenager hide his secret financial documents in level 10 of Prince of Persia. The worst part of it all, besides their horribly bad game terminology, is that they have the little sister of the gamer reveal her skills by showing her hands going all muscle memory while watching a cop play the game.  Who does that? I sighed as I watched it.

Heroes’s Tim Kring interviewed, look ahead at Heroes Season 2

without comments

I never got into Heroes during it’s first season (not a lot of time for TV), but after all that I heard about the series, I watched the entire Season 1 online at NBC (No longer available with the upcoming DVD release. Booooo!)

Sidenote: putting TV shows available online with sponsership is one of the best ideas to come out of the big networks recently. It is the only way I keep up with shows these days.

Tim Kring, the writer-producer of Heroes, talks about his first show–Crossing Jordan–and what led to Heroes getting on the air in a recent interview. It goes more into his back story than into the show. Ain’t It Cool summarized the main points here.

Interesting note outside of his interview: Wikipedia notes Kring’s first foray into the Heroes universe looks to be “Misfits of Science,” a series that sounds before its time following superpowered humans that only ran 15 episodes in 1985 and 1986.

An interview Ain’t It Cool itself had with Sylar himself did reveal that Sylar will not be dead on Season 2 and previous reports have said Nathan and Peter will be back in some form. I hope at least Peter is still alive cause personally, the power to have any power is bone fide badass.

First online reality show: The Next Internet Millionaire

without comments

Looks to be an interesting concept. There is even one contestant from Austin and multiple from Texas. Sad that the Internet has to suffer the plague of reality shows same as television now, but this one I might not actually mind. Episode 1.

Buffy’s Giles could be 90-minute BBC movie

without comments

giles off wikiI was a fan of the Buffy series until it fell into shambles jumping around to the CW and then ending just as the Angel spin-off found its legs.

One of my favorite characters in the series, Giles, may be in his own 90-minute move called “Ripper” on BBC. Ripper was his name when he was a vampire hunter before becoming a Watcher for Buffy.

Yeah, my nerd alarm just went off, so I am stopping there.

ReBoot! No, don’t hit the button…the series, you chump

without comments

I am not sure what this remake will look like, but ReBoot is getting a retouch in three feature-length films. Matrix-inspired maybe? They are both technically inside a computer.

I loved the series when I was a kid along with all other CGI shows like Beast Wars. Can’t wait to see what they do with it now.

GameTrailers takes a look back on the Metroid series

with one comment

This stuff is what I always hoped that G4TV’s Icons series would lead into in the world of gaming media. One can only hope. Icons got canceled last I heard.

Looking forward to the rest of the installments from GameTrailers.

Cloverfield title rumors; Lost getting game

without comments

cloverfield statue of libertyThis is a JJ Abrams-themed post…

First, Cloverfield is rumored to have an official name soon, but Monstrous is not it. It might not be any form of -ous even though many promotional movie posters are circulating on the Web at the moment.

Gotta hate the photochopping evils of those who like to play with the emotions of fans. We have to wait until the official release or statement about anything to really get excited these days.

They have revealed that the movie poster (minus fake title) is official though.

In other fake real news, Lost is getting its videogame debut next year from Ubisoft. Many rumors have circulated around concern for it slowly repeating the same storyline from the show, but there is hope that it could follow a completely separate (but interlaced) plot.

With Ubisoft on the case, we can only hope that Jack is free running across the island slitting the throats of others a-la-Prince of Persia and Assassin’s Creed.

Jamie Kennedy’s got jokes…bad and stupid ones…

without comments

I am not sure what Activision was thinking when they decided to hire on Jamie Kennedy to host their E3 press conference. I am also not sure why he agreed to host it.

He must still think his shows failure was a fluke. You have been Xed, Jamie.

At the very beginning, Tony Hawk looks like he can’t stand Jamie, but the best part is the last third of the video when the audience turns on his bad jokes and the actual laughter comes out. Also featured in all its horror at Kotaku.
